We all love that amazing feeling when we walk into our house and it’s as freshly clean as it could be, especially when we didn’t do the cleaning ourselves. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to experience that amazing feeling every day — although us here at Cleaning Lady would certainly love it if you do!

Lucky for you, we’ve got just the tips necessary to keep your home feeling neat and tidy in between house cleaner visits, especially when you’re a busy individual and you don’t have the time to clean your home yourself. Here are 7 tips on how to keep your home clean, even when it isn’t cleaning service day:

Set up a place for everything.

One of the main reasons why our homes get so messy so easily is because of clutter. Items like notebooks and food containers and gadgets get piled up because there’s nowhere else to put them. Items that belong in the kitchen get left in the dining room and items that belong in the bedroom get forgotten in the bathroom.

The absolute best way to avoid this is to set up places for every type of item and for that type alone. Invest in cabinets and shelves and boxes and assign each one for different types of items. A shelf, for example, can be a great place to keep books and school supplies, while a box can be used to keep your kids’ toys. As long as you remember that each item has a designated place and you know where that place is, you’ll be able to avoid clutter building up in your home.

Place doormats at all of your entrances.

After a long day outside of your home, the last thing you want is to bring all the dirt from outside into your home. Thick and heavy doormats set outside each of your house’s entrances can help prevent this by giving you and your guests somewhere to wipe your shoes before entering. Not to mention, they also make for great decorations! A nice-looking doormat can give your guests a homely feeling even before they enter your home.

Invest in a shoe rack near your front entrance.

It’s common practice to keep your shoes off when inside the house, but that can be hard when you’ve got a different pair of shoes for every type of activity and you left behind your house slippers in your room. If you’ve got a shoe rack beside the door you most commonly use, this can make it much easier to remember to take your shoes off when you enter your home.

This also makes it easier to slip back into your house slippers because you can leave them on the shoe rack every time you go out. Plus, every time guests come over to your home, they can leave their shoes at the shoe rack as well! Your guests will appreciate that much more than simply leaving their shoes outside.

Have separate slippers for the bathroom.

You probably use the same house slippers for every room in your house, whether it be your bedroom, your living room, or your kitchen. However, if there’s one room in your home that needs its own specific pair of slippers, it’s your bathroom.

This is the room that obviously gets the wettest, so having a separate pair for it prevents you from wearing wet slippers around the house and leaving wet shoeprints. This also prevents your bathroom from getting dirty, because its wet floors won’t mix with the dirt that comes from the dry floors of your other rooms.

Clean up spills the minute they occur.

It is much much harder to clean up stains from spills on your tables and counters when they’ve dried up than when they’ve just occurred. Whenever spills happen when you’re cooking, drinking, or eating, the best thing you can do is clean them up right away before anything else. It’ll only take a minute and won’t even require much, just some water and a towel or a sponge.

This can also help prevent ants and other insects from gathering in your home because there’s no scent from the spill that’ll attract them. For more tips on how to avoid insects from entering your home, read our article How to Rid Your Home of Roaches, Spiders, and Insects, for Good.

Buy air fresheners or scented candles.

We don’t just love the look and feel of a freshly clean home, we love the smell of it as well. But scents don’t often last as long, and because of that, it’s easy to find yourself missing the fragrance of a clean home two days after your cleaning service day.

If you want to keep your house smelling good and fresh all week, buy yourself some scented air fresheners! They typically last for 30 days and come in many different scents from Lovely Lavender to Refreshing Citrus. These air fresheners can get every room in your home smelling lovely and it won’t even take much effort. All you need to do is buy one, open it, and leave it in a corner of your room (preferably near a window) to keep your rooms smelling fresh for a month or so.

Some people also prefer scented candles. These work great as well but you’ll have to light up the candles every time you want your rooms to smell great. However, the routine of doing this can be very relaxing, so try it out if it interests you!

Scan each room at the end of every day.

Fit it into your daily routine to scan each room in your house before you go to sleep. You know what your house should look like, so make sure every room looks in accordance to this. This should only take a few minutes and can prevent messes and clutter and the like from building up.

All these tips should help you keep your home neat and clean even in-between house cleaner visits. You’re a busy worker and you don’t have time to fully clean your home, but that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a good home. As long as you keep these tips in my mind, your home will remain a warming place to live in, at least until the next time your cleaning service visits.
