We all want a little time to relax and have fun after a long workday, but that can be near impossible when our homes require so much work from us! Everyone who owns a home knows how much time and effort it can take to maintain it and keep it tidy. It can be hard to keep on top of all your household chores when there are so many of them and you’ve only got so much time.

Luckily, with our tips and tricks, keeping your house neat and well-kept need not be such a hassle! These are our best tips for keeping on top of all your household chores!

Make it a part of your daily routine.

It can be easy to set aside all your chores for the weekend instead, especially since the weekdays can be so hectic and busy. However, it’s hard to predict how free we’ll be during the weekends, and if something comes up during the days you’ve set aside for your household chores, you’re going to have to reschedule and be burdened with even more chores to keep up with.

That’s why we recommend doing little by little every day in order to ensure your chores never stack up! If you incorporate your chores into your daily routine – say, every morning before you head for work – it’s much easier to remember and get done because of how it’s part of what you usually do during the day.

Once you keep your household chores as part of your daily routine, you’ll find yourself having much more free time during the weekends, and that’s always a good thing.

Create a checklist.

It’s easy to forget certain chores and it’s even worse when those chores need to be done during a certain time and date. Forgetting to take the garbage out during garbage day, for example, can be the worst, because it means you’re stuck with garbage until the next garbage day.

A checklist is a great way to ensure every task gets done and no task gets forgotten, especially if you decide to separate them by time and date. It’s also just a rewarding feeling whenever we get to check out something from a checklist – there’s something so wonderful about looking at a completely checked to-do list and seeing you got so much stuff done!

Prioritize.

There’s no need to be such a perfectionist. You’re never going to get all your tasks done and done right each and every time. Instead, try and prioritize by focusing on the tasks that require the most attention. That way, even if you don’t get all your chores done all the time, you’ll still always get the most important ones done.

Certain chores require constant attending, like doing laundry. If you don’t do your laundry, you’re eventually going to run out of clean clothes to wear. These chores are the most important to remember and you should be prioritizing them first.

Know how long each chore takes.

We often set aside chores because we don’t think we have enough time for them only to discover that they could easily be done in a few minutes. The next time you do your household chores, time them so you know exactly how long each one takes.

That way, when you’ve got a free five minutes, you’ll know which tasks you can do in under that time. You won’t find yourself wasting precious seconds and you’re house will be much cleaner and neater for it! It’s also much easier to realistically schedule your chores so that you know which chores require a whole afternoon and which ones can be done in less than an hour.

Organize.

It’s so much easier to keep your house neat and clean where there is a designated place for everything. That way, there isn’t a mess to be made when you need something and you can’t find it. Because there’s a place for everything, you know exactly where to find something the second you need it.

Also because there’s a place for everything, you’ll know exactly if something’s where it shouldn’t be and you can return it back to its designated place. When everything is organized I your home, this can really help prevent messes from being made and piling up, not to mention how much more convenient it’ll be to get things done.

Keep clean.

One of the best ways to keep your home clean is by not getting it dirty in the first place. You can save yourself the hassle of so many household chores if you remember to do things like throwing trash in the proper place, washing your dishes right after you’re done using them, and not walking around with wet slippers after using the restroom.

Have fun.

We are much more likely to get things done when we have fun doing them. Chores are often such a bore which is why we never want to do them! However, there are great ways you can make doing your chores much more fun.

Playing music while doing your chores is a great way to have fun while, say, sweeping the floors or arranging the cabinets. You can listen to an audiobook or a podcast if that’s more your thing. You can also call a friend or a family member and catch up with life as you’re doing your chores.

With all these great ways to make cleaning fun, you’ll find yourself getting your chores done faster and much more often.
